I’m a big fan of Chicago style Italian Beef. I created this recipe to get this flavor explosion, but with ground beef.
1. **Brown the Ground Beef**: Start by browning your ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
2. **Seasoning Mix**: While the beef is cooking, prepare your seasoning mix. Combine the following:
– 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon of onion powder
– 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
– 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
– 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes (adjust for heat preference)
– 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt (adjust to taste)
3. **Add the Spices**: Once the beef is mostly cooked, sprinkle your seasoning mix over the beef. Stir well to ensure even distribution of the spices.
Put in a bowl – or a hoagie bun. But I skip the carbs and just enjoy the beef.
4. **Top with Giardiniera and Cheese**: If your giardiniera peppers are very oily or vinegary, you might want to drain them slightly. Add the cheese.
Enjoy your Chicago-style Italian beef skillet! It’s a simple, flavorful dish that brings a taste of the Windy City right to your kitchen.
